Overview
Conduct theoretical research regarding ion trap quantum computing and QEC(quantum error correction) while working closely with hardware experts. The topics include qubit gate design and optimization, quantum error correction and quantum algorithms for near-term applications. We are specifically looking for quantum information experts who can develop, analyze and benchmark quantum error correction protocols that are optimized for distributed quantum computing using trapped ions.
Detail
Define and quantify a full error budget for ion-trap quantum computers, covering gates, measurement, and ion transport
Identify dominant error sources from experimental data and translate them into actionable improvements for QEC design and hardware
Design and validate quantum error correction (QEC) codes and protocols tailored to realistic hardware noise
Evaluate code performance (thresholds, logical error rates, resource requirements) to assess practical feasibility
Optimize QCCD-specific ion transport operations (splitting, merging, shuttling) and model their impact on errors
Develop fault-tolerant logical gates and approaches such as magic state distillation
Explore error mitigation techniques in distributed settings, including entanglement generation and distillation
Collaborate closely with experimental teams to implement and refine QEC protocols on real hardware
